Design and Technology

The main aim of this subject is to develop children’s designing and making capabilities, through combining their designing skills with knowledge and understanding in order to plan and make quality products. The subject is taught through key skills which involve the children in developing, planning and communicating their design ideas, working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products, and to evaluate the design process and end product.

In the Foundation Stage, children will have opportunities to use a variety of materials to construct, fix and join. At both Key Stage 1 and 2, children will look at how products have been made and put together as part of their evaluation activities. Our aim is for these skills to be experienced, extended and developed as the children progress through the school. Often topics and key skills of a range of subjects are linked and taught in a cross-curricular nature.
