Pastoral

At Bean primary school we strive to be the best we can be by valuing each child as a capable and competent learner "who is excellent in their own lives". This view of the child is reflected in every area of our provision, right through the school, from Reception to Year 6.

Our aim is to provide a pedagogy that values not only the adult led curriculum outcomes but also children’s wellbeing, social development and self regulation. We try to ensure this by providing daily opportunities for the children to discuss wellbeing and anything which might concern them.  One of our regular opportunities for this, is providing a nurture group during lunchtime play.  The focus for this group is collaborative learning, building friendships and having fun together. The sessions run on a daily basis and although there is limited capacity, children are able to book in for the following day.

We also provide outdoor learning for small groups. This enables children to reflect on learning in an environment that supports a slightly more relaxed context. During the session the children access the school’s outdoor space  which includes the environmental area and pond, sensory gardens, woods and quiet area.
We are passionate about supporting our families and working together to encourage good parent partnerships. Any parent who feels they would like to discuss their child’s wellbeing with us is actively encouraged to do so.
